Duynie's Approach to LIFE Project FWFB
Duynie is partnering with Heineken and the Mons-en-Baroeul brewery will be the first one to implement this technology (expected to be operational by 2025). If successful, HEINEKEN sees optimal conditions for a further roll-out of this technology to more sites around the world till 2030.
How does it work?
After the brewing process, BSG will go to a separation facility, where it will be separated into proteins and fibres. The fibres will be burned and become a renewable thermal energy source, the proteins can be marketed as circular (human) food ingredients.
The remaining process water will be turned into biogas and as such used as an additional renewable energy source. By increasing the amount of renewable energy used in production, the need to source fossil fuels for industrial process heating is reduced, which of course, reduces the carbon footprint per hectoliter beer produced.
And that’s how one day at a time, we’ll continue to create new value form co-products for partners and the environment!
