Handling & storage
It is important to understand how to handle and store co-products.
Endless possibilities with co-products
Effective storage solutions for co-products play a vital role in optimizing feed efficiency. When co-products are stored correctly, they retain their essential nutrients, providing consistent quality feed for your animals. Co-products add a nutritional value to the ration of livestock.
Handle & store co-products
- Line the walls with plastic sheets allowing for an overhang
- Allow warm co-products to cool for 12hrs before sheeting
- Compact either with a mechanical bucket or tractor rolling to dispel the air
- Ensure an even and smooth finish to avoid excessive trapped air when sheeted
- A sprinkling of salt over the surface will help to keep the quality
- Cover with a clean plastic sheet and weigh down evenly
- Keep the open face of the co-products as small as possible and surrounding area clean to avoid spoilage
- Check and maintain the covering sheet to avoid mould growth caused by unwanted air entry
Why opt for silage capping with co-products?
